Carnivals You will be asked to swim for the club at Interclub Carnivals! Taking part in carnivals is part and parcel of being part of a swimming club. This is where we come together as a team! You don’t have to be a ‘gun’ swimmer to swim in a carnival. AUSSI carnivals are about inclusiveness and ‘having a go’. The aim of the carnival is for our club to WIN! The only way we can win is to have more swimmers there than the other clubs!
Champion Relay Team 2003 Nationals At a carnival heats are organised according to the ability of the swimmer. So you nominate a time for your events and are placed in a heat with swimmers who have nominated similar times. There are no finals. The time you swim in your heat is your final time. Points are awarded according to how you performed relative to other members of your age group (5 year groups - eg. 30-34 years). How old are you? Your official age for all AUSSI competition is the age you turn in the current calendar year. i.e. Your age as at the 31/12/Current Year. State and National records for your age group are able to be set at all AUSSI carnivals. So if you are speedy this is your opportunity to get your name in the record books. Check with your coach if you are not sure about the rules concerning starts, turns and finishes for each stroke. If you have a physical problem which prevents you from performing the stroke correctly then you should get your doctor to complete an AUSSI Medical Disability Certificate which is then registered so that you don’t get disqualified! There is always a food provided after each carnival by the host club. Sometimes this is free and sometimes you are asked to pay a small amount to help cover costs. Tea and coffee is usually supplied free but other drinks (soft drinks or alcohol) need to be paid for. Swimmers are always ravenous after a carnival so make sure you get in quick!! |
